Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Insulin so expensive?
Insulin prices are high not only because three companies dominate the market, but also because of the complicated web of middlemen involved in getting insulin to patients. Pharmacy benefit managers, insurers, and wholesalers all add costs. The result is a system where patients often pay hundreds of dollars for a vial of insulin that costs only a fraction of that to make.
What is a Biosimilar Insulin?
A biosimilar insulin is like a generic version of insulin. It works the same way as the original, is just as safe and effective, and is approved by the FDA. The difference is that it can be made and sold at a lower cost once the original patent expires.
How is this different from generics?
Our insulin is biosimilar (generic) glargine, proven effective, but produced and distributed directly by us to ensure affordability and reliability.
What is your current fundraising goal?
We are raising $750,000–$1,000,000 right now. This money will pay for the scientific and regulatory steps we need to develop our insulin and cover early operations so we can move closer to bringing affordable insulin to patients.
Why now?
The science to make insulin is well known, the patents have expired, and the tools already exist. What is missing is the will to act—and we are no longer waiting for someone else to fix the problem.
How are you funded?
We’re supported by grants, donors, and aligned investors. The money goes straight to the work. Consider investing in Project Insulin.
How can I help?
You can support us by donating, volunteering your skills, or simply spreading the word. Every bit of support brings affordable insulin closer to those who need it most.
